High Noon

I chose three parts from the battle scene of High Noon to analysis the camera arrangement of the director.

1.
1A

1B

This scene talks about the noon time finally comes and it is time for Will Kane to face his enemy, Frank Miller again. However, no one is willing to help Kane so he must to face Miller by himself. The director tilled up the camera (1A to 1B) in order to show that Kane is left by the others and no one is going to give him a hand.

1C

1D

After this, Kane walks from the bottom part to the upper part (1C to 1D) of the screen which we called as the  y-axis.The director chose to take a high angle wide shot to let the audience see Kane walks alone by himself on an empty street. This creates loneliness and emphasize the braveness of Will Kane.

2.
2A

2B

This part is about Will Kane and Frank Miller (and his friends) are searching for each others in the town. The director used the screen direction to divide the hero and the villain. Both the hero and villain walks according to the X-axis. Kane walks from the left hand side to right hand side and Frank Miller (and his friends) walk from right hand side to left hand side. This arrangement also successfully creates a tense and exciting atmosphere since the hero and the villain seems will  nearly find each others soon.

3.

3A

                                                                            3B
This part is about Amy(Mrs Kane) is leaving the town by herself on a train, however when she suddenly hears the shooting sound of the guns, she jumps out from the train and rush to look for Kane. The director use a middle shot and the actress runs according to the y-axis. The middle shot can shows both the body movement and facial expression of the actress clearly so audience can feel that Amy is worried about her husband very much and hope to find him as soon as possible. Moreover, the running direction of the actress ( runs from far to close to the camera) can make the audience being engrossed to the situation as Amy is like running to the audience.
